Maserati 222 SR engine problems

Hi,

I have a quite interesting problem with my Maserati 222 SR.
I was driving on a track day last weekend and when the car revs got to about 5500 something cut off engine power. It felt like something hit you in the face. I had to take foot completely off the gas pedal and only then when I again pushed the pedal the power came back. The car wither cut off fuel or ignition, but I don’t know witch one and why.

This problem first occurred when I bought the car over a year ago, but it went away after I regulated the idle speed, changed the spark plug cables and all the vacuum hoses. But now the problem with the idle speed problem has came back so when I take my foot off the gas pedal revs start jumping especially with cold engine and adjusting the idle speed doesn’t seem to cure the problem anymore like it did the first time.

Any ideas what could be the problems and how to cure them?

the first "problem" seems a to be a feature rather than a bug as it might be the rev limiter!? With 2,8l 3v engines, I think, revs are limited close to 6000.

The second idle issue is a known problem. After a while, the air bypass might get dirty by oil mist, so turn out the bypass screw (right hand side throttle body), clean the tip plus the bypass hole thoroughly and then do a proper idle adjustment from scratch. This usually fixes problems or erratic idle, given that the adjustment overall is close to correct.

The rev. safety cut off at your version kicks in at 5600rpm Vigri!

bitte kann jemand so freundlich sein, ein foto hochzuladen und einzuzeichnen, wo dieses teil ist, dass gereinigt werden sollte, wenn das oben angeführte bekannte problem auftritt und wie dieses teil heisst?

It isn’t the rev limiter because I have reached few times rev limiter and it doesn’t cut of power like that.
I discovered yesterday that the water temperature sensor isn’t probably original Magneti Marelli unit and this one has slightly different resistance curve. So ECU always thinks that engine temperature is higher than it actually is.
So maybe power cut off is because ECU thinks engine is overheating?

the ECU has no cut-off in case of engine overheating, to my mind

Check the fuel supply, if its not the rev. limit switch,- it might be that or a vacu leak at high rpm's.
